Osteria locatelli at the national gallery

Locatelli in London’s National Gallery is the latest project from Chef Giorgio Locatelli and his wife, Plaxy. Opened in May 2025 in partnership with Searcys, the restaurant is located on the first floor of the newly transformed Sainsbury Wing, with an espresso bar, Bar Giorgio, at ground level. The 80-seat restaurant and 30-seat bar offer guests the exclusive opportunity to experience Giorgio’s celebrated Italian cooking in London.

Joining Giorgio in the kitchen is Executive Chef Imma Savinelli. Having grown up in the south of Italy, where food is a way of daily life, Imma honed her culinary skills in her family kitchen. As well as technique and balance, she learned to value each season, honouring the finest local ingredients and their impact on the heritage of Italian cooking. After graduating from the culinary academy, Imma moved to London, where she met Giorgio in 2018. The pair have worked closely ever since and have continued that collaboration into Locatelli at The National Gallery, celebrating their collective dedication to Italian produce and cooking, now reflecting the restaurant’s stunning surroundings.

In keeping with the menu, Locatelli will offer an entirely Italian wine and drinks list, curated by Virgilio Gennaro, who has worked with Giorgio and Plaxy for a number of years and Martin Dibben, Head of Champagne & Wine for Searcys. The list reflects their favourite and most trusted winemakers, including Broglia, the oldest vineyard in Gavi; Umani Ronchi in Marche; and Ca’ del Bosco, one of the largest producers of traditional-method sparkling wine in Franciacorta. In addition, La Spritzeria offers a concise list of celebratory cocktails, each assuming a name from some of the Gallery’s greatest artists.
