London, 3rd of June - Two-Michelin-starred restaurant Da Terra and Difference Coffee are proud to announce an exclusive collaboration, launching on the 2nd of July, to present one of the rarest coffees ever to be offered in a fine dining setting, a Daterra Masterpiece Auction lot.
This extraordinary release features a nano-lot from one of Brazil’s most esteemed coffee producers, Daterra Estate, secured during their Masterpiece Auction, an exclusive auction showcasing exceptional and experimental lots. This particular nano-lot was the highest-scoring and the smallest, with only 19 kg available worldwide. At this level, such coffees are not produced on a commercial scale, but rather as expressions of controlled experimentation, reflecting a specific forward-thinking process.
Located in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais, Daterra Estate is distinguished by an innovative approach to cultivation and an uncompromising pursuit of quality. Difference Coffee, whose expertise lies in sourcing, roasting and presenting ultra-speciality coffees, has nurtured a long relationship with the estate’s team, keeping a close eye on the releases available.
The collaboration carries a deeper resonance beyond the coffee’s rarity. Chef Patron Rafael Cagali of restaurant Da Terra is guided by a culinary philosophy heavily influenced by his Brazilian heritage. He cherishes the opportunity to create a dialogue between territory and expression in presenting a coffee that originates from his homeland. This connection is further echoed in the restaurant and estate’s names - Da Terra, meaning “from the earth” in Portuguese - which evoke a shared philosophy of provenance and tradition.
Rafael joined Difference Coffee founder Amir Gehl on the day of the roasting, following the process from green lot to the final product. The flavour profile features notes of dark cocoa, dried stone fruit, and hints of citrus-like acidity, producing a mellow and round cup with a long finish.
Rafael says: “At Da Terra, we are always seeking ingredients that tell a story beyond the table setting of our restaurant. As a Brazilian, it’s wonderful to be able to offer such a rare lot that is so rich in history to all our guests.”
Amir adds: “This release is special not only because of the rarity of the coffee, but because of the collaboration behind it. To have the palate of a two-Michelin-starred chef involved in shaping how this coffee should taste is something extraordinarily rare. It was a genuine meeting of culinary and coffee craftsmanship.”
The coffee will be served exclusively at Da Terra while stocks last, available to dining guests as part of the restaurant's coffee and tea list, from the 2nd of July. It will also be available in very small quantities for purchase from Difference Coffee’s online shop HERE.

About Rafael Cagali & Da Terra:
Home to chef Rafael Cagali and Restaurant Manager Charlie Lee, Da Terra is located in Bethnal Green’s historic Town Hall Hotel, a building dating back to 1910. Launching in January 2019, the restaurant earned its first Michelin star just eight months after opening, and a second star followed in 2021. Da Terra was also ranked third on the top 100 UK restaurants list for 2023 by The National Restaurant Awards. Having undergone a complete four-week refurbishment, including behind-the-scenes upgrades and an extended open kitchen, in October 2024, the restaurant relaunched with a new room layout allowing the team to evolve their offering to a more personal and connected experience for their guests. Rafael’s culinary style at Da Terra is rooted in his Brazilian and Italian heritage, where the connection between soil, nature, and people plays a central role. The tasting menus showcase inventive, playful and deeply personal dishes. The flavours and textures reflect the chef’s journeys, drawing inspiration from his Latin American roots and his time in Italy and Spain.
